Empowering Character
Sullivan Primary School, grades PreK to 1, have created and implemented a tool known as “Empowering Character.” Character Committee members took the idea to grade level and group Professional Learning Communities. All PLCs' members collaborated and shared character activities. Volunteers typed activities into a template; a template originated from a former Promising Practice winner; Zitzman Elementary, Pacific, MO. The template was adapted and created to meet early childhood needs. This guide is a user-friendly, curricular resource accessed by the staff. The consistent use of this tool is forever-evolving around student’s needs, and growth in the school. New lessons can be added and implemented based on student’s needs. By providing a curriculum with character in everyday lessons, Sullivan Primary students will develop and apply skills to solve problems, respond positively to opportunities, challenges and responsibilities, and gain leadership to prepare them for their futures.
