Real Impact
On September 18, 2009, all 10 schools in the district came together with 10 non-profit organizations in the community. Each school was partnered with an organization. Each school had an outdoor tent set up for the evening event. Character Council students ran each tent during the evening. There was a game for students at each tent that focused on a character trait. Also at each tent, students and community members were able to learn more about the community organization (mental health organizations, canine rescue, and a home for battered women were a sampling). The goal was for the community to know that there were resources available and opportunities to volunteer. Individual schools have maintained relationships with their organizations, and community members have volunteered as a result of the evening. Students were able to enjoy an evening of character, and if they visited all tents, their family was able to attend the football game that evening for no charge.
