Projects for a Purpose
The Waterloo Middle School Projects for a Purpose is designed to partner the school community with the Seneca County Christmas Project. This Project, manned by community volunteers, provides Christmas presents and food to needy families in the community. The Projects for a Purpose begin by educating the student body about the economic conditions of the county. In the fall, the school sends letters to local businesses and invites them to sponsor a wreath/scarecrow. (The school alternates projects each year.) Advisement students and their teachers are invited to decorate the wreath/scarecrow using a local business as the theme. Finished wreaths/scarecrows decorate downtown businesses. Students take great pride in their Projects for a Purpose. To conclude this activity, the school invites the chairperson of the Seneca County Community Christmas Project to come to our school to receive the donation. Students also complete a reflection sheet and share their thoughts with their advisement peers and teacher.
