Character Goal Setting
Students vote on class character goals. Then students are asked to set an individual goal that will assist the class in reaching their class goal. Each student receives a character folder which contains the goal sheets to help remind the student of their goal and to monitor progress towards the goal. Each month, the character goal is assessed through a class meeting with the guidance counselor. The class discusses whether the goal was met or needs work. If the goal was met, another goal is set for the class based on the new character trait of the month. If the goal was not met, students discuss additional ways to achieve successful goal status. In addition to class guidance lessons, each student has an individual conference with the guidance counselor to discuss the progress of their own personal character goal. Students are required to provide evidence of their effort to work towards their goal. This is accomplished by explaining a classroom event that fostered good character and was related to their personal goal. Students use character folders to keep track of goals, assess progress, and answer character questions posed on the morning show or through class discussions.
