Senior Capstone Project
The Senior Capstone Project allows students to combine their creativity and leadership skills to develop a character program for underserved individuals in the local community. Past projects have included developing a character workshop for a group of fifth graders from an elementary school in an impoverished area, planning a series of character lessons for children in an after school program located in public housing, and designing a character seminar for girls from a residential care facility. Through this project, the seniors are putting their good character into action in the community by applying core values such as responsibility, respect and compassion to a real-world project. They are also gaining the opportunity to actively experience and reflect on teamwork and service to others. While serving others through these projects, the seniors are also developing as leaders. Benefits of this project include giving back to the community, sharing core values and essential life skills with underserved groups, exercising leadership skills, and gaining self awareness through practical application in a real-world setting.
