"Character Counts" Project
The Colleton County School District “Character Counts” Essay, Poem and Poster Contest has been developed as a means to involve all students in our district in our Character Trait of the month initiative. Each elementary, middle and high school student has an opportunity to write an essay or poem, or draw a poster representing the current character trait. This is done in conjunction with our Balanced Literacy Program. The top five winners from each school are invited to attend the “Character Counts” Luncheon. The top winners at each level (elementary, middle and high school) are given an opportunity to read their poems and essays and present their posters during the luncheon. For our final “Character Counts” Luncheon for this school year, students from a middle school keyboarding class will compile the poems, essays and posters into a “Character Counts” book that will be distributed to the schools and throughout the community.
