Book Swap
The Book Swap was a way for students to share with each other the joys of reading, reach out to the community, and provide others the opportunity to have a new (or gently used) book of their own. Over a couple of weeks, students were encouraged to bring in one of their favorite books they had read and would be willing to part with. Boxes and boxes began to pile up and in the end we had over 1500 books collected. Parent volunteers then sorted the books by age/grade level, genre, and topic. Then, every student in our school had the opportunity to look through all of the books and select a book to become their own. The “leftover” books were then donated to organizations and businesses throughout the community to pass along the joys of reading. Parents and staff also held a Book Swap of their own to share their favorites with each other.
