Panther Publications
What better way to practice the Cuivre Park Elementary consensus values of productivity, accountability, thoughtfulness, and honesty than to publicize them monthly in the school newspaper and to enjoy the process of creating the school yearbook? Students at CPE learn firsthand the joys and difficulties involved in researching, drafting, photographing, and editing their stories and pages as they develop school publications. The students must make ethical decisions as they contemplate which stories and photographs get selected from those that are submitted. They learn to think in terms of how to best serve the entire student body as they discuss and reflect upon important topics for each publication. They also must decide how to best represent the majority of students when compiling the pages for the yearbook. The students critique and edit drafts of stories and yearbook page layouts to ensure quality publications. These young writers and photographers often have to make difficult decisions about what goes in and gets left out of school publications. Students develop and refine important life skills such as teamwork, cooperation, responsibility, tolerance, perspective taking, etc. It is not a wonder that such hard work produces quality publications that the entire school can be proud of!
