Joining Efforts to Build a Community that Encourages a Safe and Reliable Environment for Kids
We designed this activity in August 2005, and since then we have trained teachers, students, staff, and parents. We have conducted workshops with the purpose of sharing our experience in planning bullying prevention programs. The Character Education committee was in charge of administering the surveys guiding the assessment and planning of the program based on the work of Dr. Olweus in the book Blueprints for Violence Prevention: Bullying Prevention Program. We provide training for “bullying prevention” starting with raising awareness about the issue, stressing on the description of the problem to differentiate it from common brawls and to understand the consequences resulting from living it within a family and in various environments. We later focus on types of intervention, finishing with the importance of applying the tools that allow us to measure the improvements and to refocus our efforts. All this is designed in a collaborative and participative environment. We believe that in this way we can build more tolerant, respectful and safe spaces that allow our children and young people to grow and to develop their potential.
