Socks to the Rescue
Fairway Elementary has partnered with area hospitals for our "Socks to the Rescue" service learning project. Students were introduced to the concept that many area children are hospitalized and some face life threatening illnesses. Our Caring Kids organization wanted to do something to brighten their day during their experience. They researched options, collaborated with our Reading teachers, and developed a project that would provide some comfort to hurting children. The entire student body was encouraged to participate with their buddy class to create sock puppets using socks and other materials donated by Fairway families, and write a story that could be given to children facing hospitalization so they could read and enjoy them.
