Fox Elementary Are Filling Buckets One Drip At A Time
As our character education journey continues, Fox Elementary implemented “Bucket Filling” values and utilized the “Bucket Filling” philosophy based on books by McCloud, Martin, Rath, Clifton, and Reckmeyer. The simple prose and vivid illustrations of these books encourage positive behavior and children see how easy and rewarding it is to express kindness, appreciation, and caring ways daily. When children and adults have their buckets filled and learn how they can fill other buckets, they understand how special, valuable, and capable they are. Filling buckets is a wonderful way to spread character among the school community. Our goal was to inform each family of our new bucket filling values. We purchased classroom copies of the books and created a “home-school” connection for each family to participate in during the first month of school. Every child took home the “bucket filling” book, read it with their family, and completed a reflection sheet together.
