Gallup Hill Facilitated Recess Program
The facilitated recess program was initiated as an attempt to provide an opportunity for students who may be having a difficult time meeting the expectations of daily grade level recess. It is also designed to offer students an opportunity to participate in activities that would not be available during a grade level recess. The efforts of the program are targeted at improving the overall social and physical wellbeing of the students and school staff in this portion of the school environment. The program is designed and implemented by the physical education teacher and will include a variety of activities such as tournaments, skill challenges, demonstration team practice, and teambuilding experiences. Assessment of the program is discussed by physical educator and administrator at the end of the school year. The program has grown from being held once a week for a small group of students to three times per week for all students in grades 1-6.
