Effective School Discipline
Hesston USD 460 has implemented a comprehensive district-wide belief that good instruction includes effective discipline that promotes responsibility, integrity, reflection, and knowledge that empowers students. It was a commitment made by the staff to mold and shape students into productive, pro-social young people. By adopting a vision that teaches students the process for owning/accepting personal choices, our students are afforded opportunities to reflect, accept, and practice issues that pertain to “right and wrong.” Not only are these steps toward ethical choice-making revisited throughout the course of the day (in classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, etc.), but also visible signs of these virtues are displayed throughout the district as a constant reminder that our effective disciplinary vision embodies the connection between academic knowledge, positive developmental growth, and action. Staff members are skilled with knowledge that resonates beyond traditional school obedience to reframing responsibility for students. By allowing students to recognize ownership, they are given an opportunity to gain insight into moral growth. This is a credence of well-rounded students and staff-- people who practice positive leadership skills and an earnest concern for others.
