Helping the Parents of our Academic Community Foster Character Development through “Red de Educación"
We invited 3 mothers and presented the idea of going to their homes in small groups to talk about and promote character development. Each mother took on the task of inviting a group of friends, preferably mothers of friends of their children, to their homes. During these meetings, two teachers provided a talk about parent responsibility and character development and gave them an assignment. The assignment was to work on three of the pillars (justice, responsibility, respect, caring, citizenship, and trustworthiness) at home and to develop strategies to promote those values at home. Since the beginning of the project, we have had an enormously positive response. Our Network of Character Education (REC) began with 3 mothers. At the moment, we have almost 100 mothers as members. At the end of the school semester, we gathered all the members of the network REC at a workshop to review the values and strategies promoted at their homes, the goal of the workshop was to define community wide strategies to foster Character Development.
