Growing in Character Can Be Fun
Our character education program at Newport Mill Middle School, Tiger Pride, utilizes several proactive approaches to character development. Growing in Character Can Be Fun is just one aspect of our comprehensive program. This particular facet takes place on one of our half days and the entire four hours minus the lunch period is devoted to character development activities that give students an opportunity to physically, intellectually and socially experience our eight Tiger Pride Traits. The lessons consist of a writing component, a discussion component, and a game segment. What makes this particular practice unique is the hands-on feature that accompanies each lesson. This piques our students’ interest, motivation, and involvement. There are a total of 5 lessons, each lasting approximately 40 minutes. Students rotate into different class rooms to experience each lesson.
