Alma Mater Idol
Each month, we focus on a different character trait. During the month of September, we promoted school spirit. Many of our students didn't even know the words to our Alma Mater or what an Alma Mater even was. Since I am also the choir director, I would lead the singing of our Alma Mater each morning during the announcements. Each week, we would take a different phrase of our Alma Mater and I would teach it to the entire student body. By the end of the month, we had learned the entire song. I took it a step further by holding "Alma Mater Idol" auditions. Students were to use the original words to our Alma Mater, but come up with their own version. The winner of the contest would perform the Alma Mater at our Homecoming Pep Rally. A group of four gentlemen won the contest and performed for our student body. It was great to see the students so excited about their school and it made me swell with pride to hear them all singing along. I even had faculty members telling me how they had never witnessed such school spirit before.
