Robert R. Lazar Middle School
Montville, New Jersey

LNN - Lazar News Network
Each morning, LNN students arrive to school early to broadcast LNN News show, aired during homeroom, offering school news, character building messages, reminders for the day, items relative to Lazar's service learning projects (such as collections, project materials, etc.), and "music with a kind and caring message" to finish. The show airs each day for 8 minutes, and then specific slides run throughout the day, reminding students of pertinent information, many of which are directed to the social-emotional well-being of the building. Inspirational sayings by famous people are added weekly, as are items such as NJ ASK Study Skills, Homework tips, etc. all devised and agreed upon by the "producers." The students, under the direction of a staff member assume complete ownership of the project and by the day's end, have gotten their messages to 950 students and 100 staff members. This project has been improved over the past 6 years to be a focal point of the day and a wonderful way to start everyone's day off with a smile!
