Ozark High Challenge Youth Trips
In 1995 the Muskogee Rougher Alternative Academy began an extracurricular program called Ozark High Challenge Youth Trips that occur every fall and spring. The trips are for high school students (grades 9-12) and teach them character building through experiencing the challenges of nature and the need to rely on one another. Through camping, repelling, hiking, and spelunking students build both self esteem and team spirit. During these 3-day adventures students learn valuable lessons in teamwork as well as personal autonomy. Upon returning from the trips participants share their experiences with the entire student body, thus empowering themselves as they reflect on their experiences and encouraging others to step out of their comfort zones and reach for heights they haven’t yet experienced.
