Special Needs Prom
Before the dance, students with special needs taught the "regular" education students how interact with students that have disabilities. They taught them how and when to offer help in many situations. At the prom, students with special needs from all over the community had the opportunity to interact with each other and with the "regular" education students. The prom was a Hollywood theme and as the guests arrived, they were escorted up the red carpet where other students were lined up with cameras cheering and clapping as they entered (paparazzi style). Each attendant had a star along the path and along the wall with their name on it. Dinner was served and the student council members helped to serve and feed any students that needed help and they all ate together. After dinner, the dancing began. All the students danced and had fun for the rest of the night. As parents started to arrive to pick up their children, they stood outside the doors watching as their children were engaged in a regular high school activity with students of many different abilities.
