Developing a New Form of "Choosing School President"
Each year, we organize the school presidential elections. The students integrate their parties by combining classmates (freshman, sophomore, and senior). They show their proposals and later vote for the one party who they believe will ensure a better environment. For the elections, we invite IFE (Federal Elections Institute) to provide all the materials that a real election process would have. Traditionally, our students have tried to replicate the election process they see commonly in the city. They make attractive promises and give away different gifts, all of them bought with the support of their families. This year, the students made important changes on the process. Those actions had the goal of primarily promoting values, avoiding the waste of materials, and spending just a little or no money. Instead of basing the vote on how many gifts they gave away, they promoted a love for our patriotic symbols, created campaigns to save water, investigated how to improve the food quality in our cafeteria, and organized parties designed to promote the fun without the use of products that may negatively affect their health. All of this was done without giving expensive gifts like had been done in other years.
