Middle School Advisory
All sixth through eighth grade students attend a mixed-age advisory class twice each week. These classes work on building a sense of community in our middle school. Advisory classes are co-led by a middle school teacher and designated student-leader. Students remain with their advisory from their first day of sixth grade until they graduate. There are three functions of advisory; each is aligned with one of our core values of respect, responsibility, and caring. To promote responsibility for self, advisory teachers meet with students twice monthly to review their current grades and develop goals and improvement plans. Students take responsibility for others by adopting part of our school building and cleaning it twice monthly. Our students practice caring and respect through advisory “student days.” Every middle school student gets one day during the year to plan an entire advisory lesson. They choose something important about themselves and share it with their peers.
