It’s All About RESPECT
At Starside Elementary we asked every first through fifth grade classroom to create their own touchstone, where they outlined what they believed should be our core values. In reading them, we discovered our students wanted to be known for their respect. Respect of Others, Ourselves and the Environment has become our goal and “The Starside Way.” We are doing activities in fun ways, such as the staff surprising the students by doing a flash mob dance to the song, "Respect." The whole school starts our day by doing the Respect Rocks dance. Go to YouTube/ Starside Elementary to see us dancing to the Respect Rock! We also created a poster with our school-side Respect expectations, along with photos illustrating the expectations using student pictures, which are displayed in every classroom and hallway. The staff writes Character Coupons for acts of Respect they see in the building. We are awarding monthly the Golden Plunger award to a classroom which leaves their work area clean, and Golden Rings (Toilet Rings) at every hallway bathroom for the cleanest restroom. These awards show respect for our school. Starside is having our first Fun Run this year to emphasize making healthy respectful choices. We hope for it to become an annual event.
