MicroSociety leads students in Real Life Learning
At Tioga we offer the real life learning experience through our MicroSociety Magnet program. Through this innovative approach, our students work to create a microcosm of the real world. Students are trained in the first six weeks of school through an academy, after they apply for jobs and are hired for different positions such as Manager, assistant manager, or bookkeeper. Some students may choose to become elected officials who identify policy and establish laws; others may choose to become peer mediators who help keep the peace, judges who arbitrate disputes or news reporters who follow newsworthy stories. Ultimately every student finds a job and works in our micro city. Students earn wages, pay taxes, rent and have the opportunity to deposit money, and take out a loan from our bank. This program commences on Mondays and Fridays at the end of the day.
