Special Friend Mentor Program
We are working hard at Valley Elementary to help each of our students experience success in school. We instituted a mentoring program in 2004, in which staff members volunteer to be a special friend to a child. As a mentor, staff members offer encouragement, friendship, and special individual attention. The staff person makes contact with the child on a regular basis during the year for assistance and support. These contacts have included lunches together at school, providing extra help with academic work, helping out in the staff person’s room, notes of congratulations on work well done, celebrating birthdays and many other similar activities.
