Unity Day Student Forum
A group of up to ten school leaders is identified and trained as facilitators for this day-long event. Between 50-70 diverse students are invited to participate in icebreakers followed by a series of small and large group activities around the topics of stereotyping and labeling, understanding and getting to know their classmates on a deeper level, and realizing that we are all more alike than different and that we are all dealing with many of the same issues. Students are allowed an opportunity to discuss local issues of bullying, ostracism, and cliques, while also learning the steps to "Speaking Up" as situations arise. Participants are asked to make a commitment to change, beginning with themselves, and are allowed, in a closing circle, to share feelings about the day, what they have learned, an apology or compliment, and how they plan to behave differently.
