A Party To Remember
Increasing student autonomy and empowerment has been one of the many Character goals for the Troy RIII School District. Second grade students at William Cappel Elementary had the unique opportunity to build on this goal by designing and carrying out their Fall Party. Traditionally this task has been organized by parents and teachers, but this year a second grade class started a new trend. Students began the process by breaking into planning committees. Each committee had a focus which included decorations, food and drink, activities, and games. Committee members had to join forces to make decisions based on the budget they were given by their teacher. It was no surprise how motivated students were after being given this empowerment and autonomy in planning their special day.
