Little Families
Each month at Woodlands School, Little Families meet to discuss how each person can contribute to a whole-school community of caring. In these groups of twelve, faculty and students meet to discuss, analyze and propose solutions requiring values of respect, responsibility, fairness, trustworthiness, caring, citizenship, and creativity. The school community of this urban K-8 public charter school enriches this dialogue, drawing from diverse perspectives of culture, race, home language and socioeconomic background. The Little Families remain intact over time, with younger students joining when older students graduate. This supports students in forming lasting relationships with faculty, staff and children from other classrooms at the school.
