B.D. Lee Adopts Organizations at Kindness Fair
B. D. Lee Elementary held a "World Kindness Fair" in November. Seven nonprofit organizations from the community gave informative presentations to students and faculty. During this event, students learned of the charity work of the Cherokee Children's Home, Meals on Wheels, The Humane Society, Miracle Hill Ministries, Harbor of Hope, PeachCenter Ministries, and the Senior Center. The fair had both an affective and academic impact on students as they made generous contributions while learning about the needs of the less fortunate. Students donated canned goods, toys, coats, blankets, pet food, and homemade cards. Classes discussed future giving opportunities. Each grade level adopted a particular community nonprofit organization to assist for the remainder of the school year. Assistance included purchasing beds and food for the shelter animals, preparing holiday treat bags for homeless children, collecting food for pantries or coats and blankets for the homeless, and creating cards and bookmarks for senior's meal trays. We believe our students experienced the true meaning of charitably reaching out to help others in need.
