Students Promote Peace Project
The teachers at Bierbaum decided that the concept of peace was something they felt we should focus on with students, teaching them what it means and how there is a peaceful way to solve any problem or solution. We wanted to work to recognize students who show peace and find a way to demonstrate peace in our halls at Bierbaum. The project began with a discussion and brainstorming about the word "peace" and what it means to us as adults, and what we feel it means to our students. We got input from students by simpling asking them to define the word. Then we came together as a staff and came up with a universal definition to teach our students- a calm way to solve a problem. Teachers then taught this concept to students through discussions, activities, reading books, and class meetings. Links of paper were given to classrooms and we wrote our names on them as we did peaceful acts. The links were formed together into a whole school chain to show that Bierbaum is a peaceful learning community.
