The "Go Green" Team
Third Graders at Bonneville Elementary discovered how to "Go Green" through the Morning Mile, the "Go Green" Operas, the Recycled Gifts Boutique and the Recycling Science Fair project. The Morning Mile improved academic scores, health, and taught children how walking reduces driving. Less driving decreases air pollution and global warming. Next, students explored what the meaning of reduce, reuse, recycle and how to promote renewable energy sources by producing an original "Go Green" opera to share with the community. In addition, the children transformed recycled materials into valuable items to sell at their Recycled Gift boutique and hosted a Funny Photo Booth. They earned $1,183.00 from this service project. The proceeds were sent to the Africa Heartwood Project that supports orphans in Ghana, Africa. Finally, our students designed landfill labels and measured how amounts of recycled trash changed once our landfill labels were affixed to regular trash cans in our school. Measurements and surveys revealed increased "Go Green" awareness. We are proud of our students for promoting environmental respect and helping Bonneville Elementary qualify as a Utah Green School.
