Citizenship Day
Buhler High students, staff and community members kicked off the first annual Citizenship Day on October 12, 2011, building a sense of community, and stressing citizenship and leadership. They improved and beautified their school and community. From pouring concrete to painting a billboard-sized mural in the parking lot, no task was too small nor too big to take on. With the help and supervision of city workers, students painted lines down the highway. One group of students worked on weeding areas surrounding the high school track. Several other groups had designated community members' homes they were to report to with their staff member. They helped remove tree limbs, swept sidewalks and driveways, and weeded. Throughout the event, the school photography class filmed and took still pictures. At the end, all students and staff gathered back at the high school auditorium for a cool drink and snack and to view themselves at work and play and revel in their accomplishments. Students gained senses of belonging and pride. They could see all that they could accomplish by working together.
