Character Buddies
Since Centre became a K-12 building in 2010, we wanted to create a cultue based on core values. To accomplish this shared vision, we have created Character Buddy Groups. Each student in our school is either a mentor or a buddy. We meet monthly, at the school-wide Character Buddy Assembly to recognize good character, participate in a character building activity in each character group, and celebrate the positive things in our school. We are using Stephen Covey's "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" so that each teacher can focus on these life-long skills. Sixth graders teach the 7 Habits to the elementary students and create videos, posters and activities to help them understand the importance of personal responsibility. At the high school level, the students are keeping track of data and becoming Self-Regulated Learners. In February, every student and staff member will invite a person to our school for a "Blue Ribbon Ceremony." At the ceremony we will give our special person a blue ribbon and thank them for making a difference in our lives. Each day you will find teachers and students writing character coupons to recognize the good character in each other.
