Academic Peer Tutoring
National Honor Society students, as well as others who wish to volunteer, are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays to serve as tutors for those that have been referred for peer tutoring during "seminar" time. Students who are in need of help are referred in four ways: teacher, self-referral, parent referral, and counselor referral. After being identified, the student's teacher is asked to fill out a referral form, identifying the specific needs of the student. Each referring teacher has been given a list of available tutors, as well as asked to suggest tutors they feel would be strong in the identified area. Following the referral process, each student is assigned a tutor that has expertise in their identified subject of need. Seminar teachers are then notified of the students whom need to attend tutoring, and each student is required by administration to attend. Once they come to tutoring, their tutor is given their sheet identifying their need, and the two are allowed to work the entire seminar period on the given subject matter. Following the session, the tutor is asked to give feedback on the student's performance which is then given to the referring teacher.
