"Hey, Midnight...Who Are YOU?"
Student leadership is very important at Cuivre Park Elementary! Last year, the student members of the CPE Character Council took turns dressing in the mascot costume and greeting students following the school-wide morning meetings. While these student leaders loved sharing this role, it only allowed a few select students to participate. This year, initiated by students, a new system was designed. Now, all fifth grade students who wish to have a turn as "Midnight" can do so. The students keep a calendar for sign-ups in the office and the only requirement to get to be "Midnight" is an approval by their teacher. This helps to ensure that "good character" is an important part of getting to be "Midnight." The students keep a watchful eye on the calendar and notice if they need to gather new signees. They will talk to their peers, converse with the teachers, and fill in dates to be sure that "Midnight" is ever present at morning meetings and other important events like buddies days or school-wide celebrations. Students who have already had a turn then mentor other students along the way. It is especially wonderful to see "Midnight" interact with the younger students.
