DC Scholars Stanton Community Circle
DC Scholars Stanton works diligently to implement character building activities into each aspect of school culture. Community Circle, the school's character education practice, is a critical component of school culture and a key element in how a school-wide community of achievement is built. Students embody the student core values centered on the word PATH (Professional, Attentive, Thoughtful, and Hardworking) which are deliberately aligned to practices where students can strengthen their moral character to prepare them for life in and out of school. Community Circle provides a platform where PATH and the demonstration of it, is honed. During character building exercises, students share words of praise with one another and issues such as the importance of honesty, manners and service to others will be discussed and internalized. If issues related to acceptance, race and/or diversity arise in the school community they are discussed during Community Circle. Students are pushed to see the repercussions of poor decisions and will have to apologize to their community for any mistakes they make. The practice ensures a solid foundation for a whole school culture.
