Hot Topic Presentations
Our promising practice is an annual "Hot Topic Presentation" presented by the counseling staff at Derby Middle School. The Hot Topic presentation last year was Confronting Peer Mistreatment. This was presented through a PowerPoint presentation which educated parents and staff on the facts about peer mistreatment, reasons for peer mistreatment, and the profile of a victim, bully and bystander. The presentation discussed gender difference with peer mistreatment, how to raise a caring child as well as what we do at Derby when students mistreat others. This presentation gave parents ideas and tools of what to do if their child was the victim, peer mistreater or bystander.
