Winter Warm-Up: Catching Good Character
Using a Cardinals baseball theme, we hold a spring training day to review our "Cattitudes" (I am responsible. I am respectful. I am kind. I am safe. I am cooperative.) in various areas of the building, including hallway, cafeteria, playground, bathroom, library, and bus. The fourth and fifth grade students serve as the teachers and leaders as the younger students rotate to each station. One break station includes selling popcorn, with the proceeds going to the charity Cardinals Care. The fourth and fifth grade students design creative lessons to engage the younger students. Students meet with their buddies at the end of the rotations to create "Catching Good Character" posters with a glove and ball to show what they learned about the appropriate behavior for one area. A baseball-themed reflection sheet is completed at the end of the day. Photos and videos were taken and organized into a Smilebox presentation that we share with students, staff, and parents.
