Redefining Beautiful
Last year, Redefining Beautiful volunteered at the St. Louis Crisis Nursery, and this year, they are hosting a prom dress collection drive for needy teens through the Cinderella Project. In March, they're planning a Beautiful Lengths event, where students will donate hair for wigs to give to cancer patients. They also place Post-It notes on the mirrors in the high school, middle school and even the local mall's restrooms. The notes have positive, reinforcing messages to woman covering everything from their appearance to their feelings. Probably their greatest effect has been on the 25 young women who participate in the group. It affords all of them an opportunity to belong and participate in a positive school related activity where they may otherwise have not. As well, through their meetings and advertising the group has also raised awareness about social issues facing young woman each day throughout the community.
