The Fox High School Student Focus Group
Fox High School's Student Focus Group (SFG) is comprised of 24 students from all four grade levels, various cultural backgrounds and socio-economic status. The SFG meets every Thursday during advisory to share ideas, concerns, and ultimately allow student voice and autonomy. They partner with teachers, staff members, parents and local community organizations. The goal of the SFG is building acceptance and establishing relationships to combat the issue of bullying. As a group of peers, they discuss the prevalence of bullying and collaboratively brainstorm ideas of how to recognize and help both the victim and the bully. The Focus group works to organize and plan events that build empathic relationships and recognize student differences through acceptance. Part of their responsibility is to implement advisory activities and school wide assemblies that focus on these skills. Within the Focus Group are several sub-committees lead by a student appointed chairperson. Each committee is responsible for a unique aspect of the overarching goal for the group that includes student activities, staff and community involvement, awareness projects and advisory lessons.
