FHC is Bully Free; Our Student Led Journey!
During the 2011-2012 school year we created a student-led character education committee called breakdownFHC. The goal for this school year was to enable these student leaders to learn about bullying and bullying prevention. The students have attended numerous trainings that focused on developing awareness and strategies to inform the school community of this problem. The students have spent many hours outside of school (including time during their winter break) to create meaningful lessons for the staff and students. On January 2, the group of students led discussions and activities with every teacher at FHC. The students then took feedback and created lesson plans to share with their peers about bullying at FHC. The students have been able to use their voice and ideas in order to create material that has helped raise awareness and buy-in from the staff and students. Our sample size is small but having the students be able to create the presented material has increased their motivation and has increased the receptiveness of their message.
