Bullying Survey & Gallery Walk
The Bully Survey & Gallery Walk is a project incorporated into the sixth grade math curriculum. Students work in pairs to complete this project, which begins with a survey of a sample of the schools population. Sample sizes, biases, and appropriate surveying techniques are discussed. As a class, we discuss what we imagine we will find -- for example, “Are girls bullying more online than boys? Do 8th graders have a bigger issue with bullying that any other grade?" Each pair then chooses a topic from the survey, such as Students who were Bullied Online or Students Who Stayed Home As A Result of Bullying. Students gather data on their topic from the surveys and categorize first by grade level, then by gender. Once data is gathered and combined, students create a variety of graphs to illustrate their findings which are presented to the community at our Bullying Gallery Walk.
