Timrod Elementary School Red Tie Club
The Red Tie Club was created for 5th and 6th grade males to instill good character and positive leadership skills; thus, the meaning of the red tie. Club members meet biweekly to discuss topics that develop character building and leadership skills based on core values such as manners, honesty, consideration, responsibility, and determination. Members record positive behaviors at school and at home in log books, and share their experiences at meetings. The club hosts members of the community such as the Chief of Police, Mayor, and other prominent community leaders who offer advice and relate personal experiences that will motivate young men to become good leaders. Club members participate in projects that improve their community. On School Beautification Day, the boys and their families work together to make the school grounds more attractive. They participate in other service projects demonstrating that they are responsible leaders at school. At the end of the year, the boys host a banquet for parents where they demonstrate core values and share their experiences, then receive red ties as symbols of their success.
