Our Future Lockers
Ninth grade art students practiced drawing, sculpture, mixed media design, and expression through symbolism, while dreaming about their character and life goals in the near and distant future. These students, with the guidance of Leadership Program co-faciliator David Blais, collaboratively created a wall-mounted gold, baroque-style, framed, miniature collection of high school lockers. Each eight-inch tall locker was constructed by individual students, while the collections' frame was constructed as a group. Each locker holds both drawn 3D symbols representing students' goals and dreams for their senior year of high school, including images ranging from a poster from their imagined future class president campaign, instruments they want to play, and symbols of the character traits they want to develop. The back of the lockers are translucent and backlit, allowing academic and character aspirations and images affixed there to visually resonate as dreamlike and limitless. Displayed in the halls of the school, these lockers inspire the artists and their viewers to work to accomplish their dreams of success.
