Peers Learning Character Convocations (PLCC)
Peers Learning Character Convocations (PLCC) are held twice a month for each grade (K-5). While teachers are conferring in their PLC’s (Professional Learning Communities) and discussing strategies for promoting student achievement, all of the students in that grade meet to delve into an equally important topic- displaying good character. Peers Learning Character Convocations foster thinking and dialogue between students about how they make decisions and treat people at school and home. These convocations are planned and implemented by the Special Subject teachers (Art, Music and Library/Media) and offer a variety of learning experiences for every type of student: a literature selection, musical experiences, art projects, games and cooperative simulations which address the topics of bullying and the pillars of character. Peers Learning Character Convocations provide students with the tools they need to stand up for others and themselves, and to treat others with respect. This knowledge will help to create a caring school environment, promote positive core values, enable the students to improve their social relationships and become happier in their daily lives.
