Ho`ala School's Agreement System
The Agreement System teaches students to be responsible for and conscious of their own choices and behavior. It is designed to raise awareness of how one's actions affect self and others. At the foundation of this discipline system is a set of agreed-upon expectations. Students commit to living up to the agreements or adhering to the consequences when they do not. The agreement states: "I agree to support the learning environment so that teachers can teach; students can learn.
I agree to do nothing that could possibly harm or disrespect self, others, school.
I agree to be in class during class time and within school boundaries."
If a student breaks an agreement, the teacher reminds with neutrality. When a student has broken an agreement, the student records it on the login sheet and continues with class. If the student does not feel the login was fair, that student can arbitrate it with the teacher and adult facilitator at a later scheduled time, during a "clearing." The tally of these reminders, or "log-ins" is maintained on the log sheet and cleared at the beginning of each month, allowing students to start fresh. Within the month there are consequences for reoccurring log-ins.
