Crucial Catch
In conjunction with the NFL fight against breast cancer, our physical education class does a unit on flag football. All classrooms in the school are divided into different NFL football teams and race to bring in the most pink Yoplait lids that are then submitted to support the cause. Students decide on different fund raising initiatives to support the cause while reflecting on past years, improving their initiatives year-to-year. This year our students decided to hold a Spare Change campaign. They built excitement in the school and went room to room collecting loose change for the cause. At the end of our flag football unit, we held a student vs. faculty flag football game that we invited students, parents, faculty/staff and community members to. Everyone wore pink! Before the game, student leaders honored victims and survivors of breast cancer and our school choir sang songs of hope to encourage them in their fight. During half time, students carried buckets throughout the crowd collecting any spare change for the cause. Students donated most of the proceeds to the Susan B. Colman charity and used the remaining proceeds to put a gift basket together for one of our own fighters.
