"You've Got Mail"
At Indian Land Middle School (ILMS) we are intentional about character development and work to create programs that will not only demonstrate positive traits, but instill a long term influence. Unlike typical school-wide character development programs, A-OK (Acts of Kindness), specifically "You've Got Mail", is a program designed to effectively make a change in our thinking, our attitude, and our actions. Our "You've Got Mail" practice is a springboard to improved communication, encouragement to think before your actions/responses, and awareness of what makes you unique in the eyes of others. Every student and adult in our school personalizes an envelope that is affixed to a wall in our main hallway. During a designated time, we share kindness by dropping notes into the personalized envelopes. Notes are monitored, and we ensure every student receives at least one note during the "You've Got Mail" campaign. When the practice was initially introduced, we planned a one-week campaign; it has since been celebrated for several weeks because of the tremendously encouraging outcome.
