Kū Mauna Freshmen Orientation
"Kū Mauna" (to stand firm on the mountain) is the gateway for students entering high school at Kamehameha Schools Kapālama High School. This tailored orientation program was created in 2002 to assist and to support all ninth grade students in the transition from middle school to high school. Students are introduced to Hawaiian cultural concepts and core ethical values that unify the class. Hands-on learning experiences familiarize students with the high school campus and its daily operations and help to break down social barriers. Kū Mauna gives freshmen students a basis for understanding their Hawaiian core value of "mālama kekahi i kekahi" (mutual care & trust).
