Impact: Student Leadership in Action
Impact is a leadership group for junior high students designed to teach leadership and give students opportunities to practice leadership. The group is open-membership because all junior high students are capable of developing leadership skills if they so desire; however, within the group there is room for varied levels of leadership. Each of our seven committees has a "chair" position, determined by an application and reference process. Maverick Tour Guides is a group trained to give tours of our LEED Platinum PK-12 school facility. Maverick Movie Makers is utilizing a county media center and learning to use video equipment, an audio studio, and editing equipment to produce videos for the school and PSAs for student issues. Social Activities, Fundraising and School Service committees each work for the good of the school and of the Impact group. Maverick Pride is a committee that works to promote school spirit and sportsmanship within our student body. And finally, our Ecology committee works to increase our building knowledge (in grades K-8) of environmental issues. Each Impact member serves on one committee, and with so many committees, we are able to be quite productive.
