L.I.S. Outstanding Owls Leadership Club
At the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year, every 6th grade student was introduced to a collection of leadership opportunities. After an introductory presentation, students were given a chance to volunteer for their preferred Leadership Club. The choices included being a member of the Lawrence Intermediate School's Ambassador Team, Hootie the Owl's Tech Squad, 6th grade Peer Tutors, "Get Out Of Bed LIS" TV Production Crew, Character Club Assistants, The Philanthropic Kids, Library Helpers, and Safety Patrol. During the presentation, each student was asked to compare their own talent to the clubs that were offered. After completing an application, students were assigned a leadership role. Each club's faculty advisor set a weekly meeting date, and the students established the rules and specific goals for that club. When each group initially met with their faculty advisor, they discussed how they could make improvements in our school's environment as leaders of our school. Most clubs meetings are held in the morning from 8:40 a.m. - 9:00 a.m., and during this time students work towards accomplishing the goals of the club while continuing to hold discussions about school improvement.
